Black, one shoulder, midi length with a front knot that defines the waist without a belt or structure underneath. The La Verna is an evening dress for women who want the silhouette to do the work.

The print is a collaboration with Scottish artist David Swift, hand block-printed by Deaf artisans across the full length of the dress. Each motif is part of a larger visual world, detailed enough to hold attention across an evening, distinct enough not to need accessories competing with it.

Cotton is light enough to move in. The single sleeve and bare shoulder keep it from reading as heavy despite the black base. The knot at the front pulls the fabric in and creates drape rather than cling.

Got questions? We've got answers!

  • The knot is pre-constructed, not tied by the wearer, so it sits at a fixed point at the front waist. It creates definition through the midsection by gathering the fabric inward. If you carry more volume through the waist, size up so the knot does not pull tight against the body; the drape works better with a little ease around it.

  • Yes. The shoulder seam is stitched, not draped, so the neckline holds its position through movement. You do not need to adjust it throughout the evening. The single sleeve also counterbalances the bare shoulder, which keeps the garment from shifting.

  • The print was designed by Scottish artist David Swift specifically for this collection and is not reproduced outside of it. Each piece is hand block-printed, so the motif placement varies slightly between runs. You are not buying a mass-produced interpretation of the design. You are buying one of a limited number of pieces that exist.

  • Cotton does not reflect light the way synthetic fabrics do, which means the dress reads as matte and understated rather than shiny or formal. It breathes through the evening without holding heat. The trade-off is that cotton creases more than polyester; steam or iron on low heat before wearing.
